Who Are We?
Special Engineering Services Limited (SES) carries a rich heritage of German precision and expertise. Originally established as FAG India Pvt. Ltd. in 1960 by FAG of Germany, the company specialized in manufacturing axle boxes for railways. In 1972, SES was formed after acquiring FAG India Pvt. Ltd., with M/s. INTRUST AG (SA) Ltd., Switzerland, holding a 39% equity stake. The axle box manufacturing operations continued under SES.
Evolution and Growth
From 1977 onwards, SES diversified into the development and manufacturing of automobile components, supplying to leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Our workforce, trained under German experts, gained advanced precision engineering skills, enabling us to produce a range of high-quality products, including:
- Propeller Shafts
- Seating Systems
- Sheet Metal Components
- Railway Components such as Magnet Frames and Suspension Tubes
Technological Advancements
SES has always embraced advanced technology to enhance production efficiency and product quality. Notable milestones include:
- Installation of a 3-plane Dynamic Balancing Machine for Propeller Shaft balancing
- Implementation of AutoCAD and Pro-E Software in 1996 to digitize and optimize design processes
- Certification of ISO/TS-16946, ISO 14001:2004, and OSHAS 18001:1999 from DNV, ensuring adherence to international quality and safety standards
Innovation & Global Collaborations
SES is committed to lean manufacturing principles across its five units (four in Kolkata and one in Jaipur). Over the years, we have entered into several strategic technical agreements:
- 1996: Developed Catalytic Converters in collaboration with Cataler, Japan, supplying to multiple OEMs
- 1999: Partnered with HSIN CHONG, Taiwan, for Trim Seats with Sliding & Reclining Mechanism, commencing production in August 1999
- 2024: Signed a technical agreement with Koushin Seikosho Ltd., Japan, for the production of high-reach Pantograph AC Electric Locos
